1: Pain Management
Mark McCaldin is the G.P. point of contact.
From mid February a new Pain Management Service is to be set up. Referrals to this system will be from 1st March 2010. This is a ‘Choose and Book’ only service. Patients will be seen either in Hexham or Ponteland.
2: Research.
Shona Haining is Head of Research and Development NHS North of Tyne NHIR CRN (National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network) consists of 6 Topic- Specific Clinical Research Networks (TCRN’s).
Cancer
Dementia & Neurodegenerative Diseaes
Diabetes
Medicines for children.
Mental Health
Stroke
PLUS Primary Care Research Network.
A Primary Care Research Network (PCRN).
A comprehensive Clinical Research Network (CCRN)
PORTFOLIO:
A National Database of commercial and non commercial clinical research projects fulfilling criteria set by the Departments of Health.

Participation : Several of the GP practices are already involved, expectation is all 13 practices in WNPBCG will be involved from 5th March 2010.
Patients have better outcomes when practices involved, Staff skills are increased and it offers both Staff and patients the opportunity to contributor to improved understanding of health and healthcare.
Hay Fever is currently being considered, staff are trained in research techniques by NoT.
The Primary Care Research Development Forum was launched October 2009, it meets every 6 months, led by Dr Scott Wilkes (Northumberland GP-Amble, and Honorary Senior Lecturers in Primary Care Newcastle University).
The GP Research Practice Initiative pilot was launched in September 2009

3: Ascertained Methadone not a very big issue throughout West Northumberland, however although numbers small same problems apply, e.g. patient from Haltwhistle travels daily to Hexham

The Aspergillus Trust
Aspergillosis is a common fungus, its spores are present in the air around us. Sufferers of Aspergillosis develop an adverse reaction to this fungus causing fungal sinusitis, or infection, degeneration and long term damage to the lungs. In some cases it may lead to fatalities.
