The new guidance on mental health issues for service users and carers
includes PDFs explaining detention in hospital, electro-convulsive
therapy, and community treatment orders.
We are organising for hard copies of the leaflets to be delivered to
hospitals, and to user groups, but in the meantime you can also find
electronic versions on our website:

Most people receiving mental health care do not have their rights
restricted. However, in some instances this happens to protect the
person receiving treatment and others. We monitor the use of the Mental
Health Act and protect the interests of people whose rights are
restricted under that Act. In these pages you will find information
about what to expect if your rights are restricted and what to do if
you’re not satisfied with the care you have received.
